In the "On Base housing in Landstuhl" do they have american electric or do you require a transformer there as well. I'm asking because when i was in italy on base they had american electric and off base you had to have a transformer for everything. and while i dont mind buying some of the little things there for them to stay there. I dont want to buy a kitchen aid mixer for the wife and then have to put it on a transformer.

I would strongly suggest that you do not put a kitchen aid mixer on a transformer. Unless you want the risk of buying your wife another kitchen aid mixer when you return to the states.

yeah that's why i was hoping that they have American power on base housing. in that case we would just leave it here with family or something.

AH!!! does anyone know if they have dual voltage kitchen appliances there at the px???

Leanne --- 211 days ago -

Hardly any! The good news is, you can buy appliances on the economy with your VAT forms and get 19% off, so replacing them isn't horrible. We left all of our 110v appliances in storage back in the states.

ok thanks for your help, I guess we will be saving the tax returns so that we can buy new stuff there, Dont know about a kitchen aid though...

The good news is, you'll receive a good chunk of money when you move here, between DLA and per diem from when you're in TLF. People who are PCSing out will also sell used appliances on RYS for a decent price, which helps a ton too.

TLF?? temporary lodging facilities? yeah looking forward to saving some money :) also going to try and get the ppl selling on RYS to post the things im wanting to buy on my website so i can pay them in advance and my sponsor could put it into storage for me so i dont miss out on any good deals before i get there. that always seems to happen.

I didn't bring my Kitchen Aid here because even though it will "work" on a transformer, the cycles are different and it could ruin the motor and void the warranty. They do however, have 220 Kitchen Aids you can buy on the economy if you're going to be here for a while.

just dont know if i want to spend that much on a kitchen aid for only 3 years. I know i sound cheap but when you buy a kitchen aid you do it with the intention of having it forever... so if someone is getting rid of one when i get there maybe i might get that if not.... then a cheap mixer it will be

i would suggest getting 220v items if they have a motor unless the 110v items will run on both 50 and 60Hz power. even then the motor might run a little slower here since the power here is 50Hz. those items designed (most new ones are) for 50-60Hz should not be affected but why take the chance?

If you're living on base there are 110V outlets in every room. The kitchen has at least 2 outlets with 2 plugs each, and the other rooms in the house also have 110V outlets. So if you plan on living on base, then you probably won't need an transformer. But on base housing can be scarce...

I used my Kitchen Aid mixer in base housing at RAF Lakenheath...my advice would be to not bring it. The motor just doesn't sound the same anymore. I left it in storage for our 4 years in Germany.
