Does any one know what the loacl law is with regards to picking up after your dog does "its business"? 

I'm not sure but I take my dog for walks in the woods by my house. There are a lot of 'piles' on these trails so I don't worry about it. He did go once on the sidewalk so I picked it up with a plastic bag to be courteous. 

do you really need a law to pick up your dogs mess on a public sidewalk???? WOW

Mcmama, Germans expect you to pick up after your dogs. Period. End. Dot. Especially if you are walking on a well used trail or on a sidewalk. I am not sure if there are laws, but I have seen my Germany neighbor holler at people who leave the mess behind. She picked up the pooh in a little sack and gave it to the offender, who also happened to be German. Best advice? Just pick it up, saves you trouble in the long run. 

I totally agree I live in Building 1111 and I have a husky and lab and I pick up their poop. When it was snowing outside and it was really deep I didn't see some of their poop and when it melted I was so embarrassed that I didn't pick it all up. There is someone around my housing area that lets their dog poop right next to our building and I can't recall a day except today that I haven't or my dogs haven't steped into it. It was really bad on the other side of Vogelweh(BX side) when I lived over there because their was so many dogs but their were dog bags everywhere.... okay I will stop I am just tired of stepping in it.

I'm not sure if you are referring to me angel... but like I said, I did pick up my dogs mess whenever he went on the sidewalk. I also said that I am not sure of the laws but that I did it to be courteous whenever he did go on the sidewalk. In the woods now...that is another story. As long as the mess is off the trail, that's okay (to me) and apparently everyone else in my village too. Ducky, that is so funny that your neighbor hands the "offender" the mess. I would be ticked if someone left their mess on my sidewalk too!

I don't have a dog but was wondering if there was a local law after my attempt at going for a walk this morning. Along the main street the sidewalk was fine but after that it was like playing a game of dodge the poop! I was walking along a walk way then into a park which even tho it has a sign outside every entry way saying no dogs it was covered in poop! I guess it just bothers me as I don't think other people would be too happy to walk along trying to avoid my kids dirty diapers!

i don't think it should be a case of a law or regulation it should be a case of doing the right thing. the problem is there are too many people who feel they are above cleaning up after their dog. it seems some people feel they have the right to do anything they want no matter how it affects other people or that being considerate to others is not necessary. i can't help but wonder how these people treat their dogs if they treat their fellow humans like this. 

So after another attempt at going for a walk I am still on dodge the dog p**p rant! This is not a personal attack, just a question........ if it is ok to leave p**p behind you in the woods ( on or off the walk way) is it ok to dump your trash there too? Better go now and clean the p**p from my shoes, my kids shoes and our stroller! Anyone know of a p**p free walk way that is not in a built up area? 

I expect every pet owner to pick up the p..p .I always pick up for mine little girl . In other european country's there is a law for that and hwo doesnt pick up the mess must pay a fee -close to 30$ ..of corse that person must be caught doing that .Germany being so well developed country I would expect that there is one law here too .

i must say i've never encountered the problems you described when i took my dog out. of course i always went to areas that weren't stroller friendly. they weren't bike friendly, jogger friendly or even very foot friendly but my dog loved it! if she did do her business when we were out the only thing that would step in it would be a deer, fox, or other animal but she was a little wierd and liked to go in her own yard most of the time. i know german shepherds are particular where they do their business but she took that to an extreme!!!! i hope you find a clean place to walk. 

if my dog poops where people will be walking then i pick i up. Generally i can get him to poop in wooded areas of the path where people usually don't walk. 

people should clean up after their dogs whether you let them go on the sidewalk or on the grass. Its common courtesy. Every time I bring my son for a playdate at a friends house on vogelweh I have to remind him not to walk on the grass because of the many piles of crap lying all over the common area grass.
