hey all had to blow off some steam anyway read the other post about how aafes pretty much bites and decided mabye I could get some insight into a dilemma I have anyway I work for aafes unfortunatley and yes it sucks it's a huge mess with terrible leadership, anyway i'm a shelf stocker for nightshift and not saying im amazing but your 5yr old son or daughter could do this job so I finish about 3 hours into the shift then I go help others do their work well I had to help a new girl with her work which is fine I dont mind that but then she's getting on me like she runs the company mind you she been there for like two weeks so whatever I keep working then I go to trash some boxes and on the way back I was asked for help by another person to help stock diapers because theres a lot and there heavy for her anyway about 15 mins in the first girl walks up and says hay are you gonna work your last hour or just f off and my respons was hey I know im helping ya but you have three ppl over there let me help her real quick and besides are you my boss now in a joking sort of way but inside my blood was boiling so I keep going then not even 5 mins later the manager comes looking for blood and I was fuming this new girl is making me look like a dirt bag because she cant handle her job so I basically started to argue then it escalted because I couldnt get a word out then all he says it your getting written up lets take a trip to the office where he then tells me the last person that gave him lip he layed out??!! then he has me sighn a blank write up and refuses to give me a copy mind you this all happened last night so anyway im pretty but hurt and also pretty sure something illegal happened to me so what do ya think what can I do this is too unfair I think

Buff it --- 14 years ago -

then he has me sign a blank write up and refuses to give me a copy

Sorry it all sounds horrid , and I don't want to get at you , this is meant as advice , don't sign anything blank ever ! you have put you name to something with out reading it ,
anything could get written on there now... and your signature at the bottom says you agree!

heya --- 14 years ago -

yeah im kicking myself now just another dumb kid mistake to add to my list but he told me that it was a verbal counseling and the paper was an agreement saying he gave it to me but then my coworkers said no that it was not what he said ive only been there a month to think I transferred from soutside where the managers are great to this crap hole

Mojo --- 14 years ago -

I am sure AAFES has regulations on what can and can't be done. Look them up and find out what their policy is on write ups, and what the employee is required to do vs. what the manager is required to do.

You did make a mistake in signing that form, you could have refused but what is done is done. It's hard to know what your rights are in a situation like that.

Learn from this, learn what the regulations are and what the rules are, and keep it professional for your jobs sake.

CMS --- 14 years ago -

I've worked for years in retail management. In all that time I have NEVER had anyone sign anything blank... that is just a shady occurance. I think that the best thing you could do at the moment is work your chain of responsibility. AAFES has an open door policy. Talk to the supervisor above that one.

The best advice I can give in a situation like you had is to keep your cool. If you lose your temper, yell, cuss, whatever... then you are just making yourself look bad. Like Mojo said, keep it professional.

My son worked for Aafes in the food court for almost a year. I finally made him quit. Some of the local nationals that work in there have been there for a long time and should have been fired many times over. They have so many complaints against them, but I was told they cannot be fired due to the fact that they have contracts. My son's supervisor never showed up on time, then would falsify the time sheet. He would show up sometimes two hours late or more. He did this before he became supervisor as well. My son never missed a day of work, nor was he ever late. His supervisor was very good friends with one of the managers, so he would sign in and then disappear for the rest of the day....only to come back later and sign off that he was there all day. He never did any work and then was nominated by his friend to get employee of the month. He also would say that he worked holidays, but never even came in. He put my son down to work with him on Thanksgiving...He never showed up, but he sure put down that he was there. My son complained to his manager and was told to mind his business.. The only Manager worth a darn was Aftab. He started to catch on after a few months, so he is probably no longer there. If you notice, the turnover there is horrible most only last about a month. My son has since gone on to college, I noticed the idiot that was doing this is now serving fish in the same food court :)

Sounds all too similar to me. I was an employee working for AAFES and I caught some stupid LN talking crap about me in Gemran. She referred to me as a dog. I am in the middle of handling the problem. However, I am think of hiring a lawyer and suing for discrimination. I'll be damned if Im going to be referred to as a dog because Im American..

seriously --- 12 years ago -

Sorry u were treated that way.when we r the minority trying to work fairly with the majority that does not respect that the minority is the only reason they have a job.in addition the local "society" appears to have a common value for the minority as less valued than they are as german, these children and young adults are raised in a "society" where they are taught to take from and disrespect differences.and before you all start flaming what I am saying, it doesn't just happen in germany, it just so happens that it is germany and the locals are the society.and the local society dislikes minorites; minorites being american. think about it. minorities with power is scary anywhere in the world.its a dog eat dog world for these germans with the big buck paying jobs that the minorities provide.no way will they help or accomodate an incoming employee that could harm their wellbeing!

Atticus Finch --- 12 years ago -

WTF! Quit playing the "victim card". Get a clue and get a grip. If you're a good worker, you'll move up. If not, expect to stay in your current position unless you find greener pastures; regardless of "the locals"! Sheesh....

JV215 --- 12 years ago -

If you're a good worker, you'll move up.

Not always true. Actually, I've found that sometimes the better you work, the more people will walk all over you and use you as their "Yes Man". Being capable shouldn't make you a target to be taken advantage of, but it happens.

I'm still reeling from these stories of time fraud and all the disrespect. Maybe I'm not the average American (or person) but I discriminate based on a person's attitude, work ethics and morals. Hey, if you suck as a person maybe you should be discriminated against. But to give a person grief for no reason, like for what they wear, nationality, or whatever, is nuts to me.

I've been a stay at home mom for quite a few years and was thinking about jumping back into a part time job just to have something to do for myself. I was considering applying with Aafes, but maybe I should avoid it like the plague. I'm a German who speaks very little German (but understand a decent bit) and I get enough weird looks about that as it is! I don't need being in a place to be called names for it. Thank you.

Hmmmm... Sounds very, very familiar.

Great advice!

but I discriminate based on a person's attitude, work ethics and morals.

That isn't discrimination. That is just good management.

unique --- 12 years ago -

victim card? huh and it just so happens that all the people with "bad ethics and morals" happen to be American? huh! Im sticking up for myself. and as I said before, "I'll be damned if I am going to let someone refer to me as a dog because Im American!" There dipthong, you dont have to repost my words! End of story...

First off, the new girl can stop thinking her crap doesnt stink and where the hell does she come off bossing people around??? she's the newbie!! And second, AAFES management is notorious for Unprofessionalism. You're not playing the "victim card", you were wrongfully treated. You need to report to your manager's higher up now. Explain what the newbie was doing, how the manager decided to assess the situation and how you feel uncomfortable about how you were treated. Simple. I'm on your side on this one.

Confused. Why the hell is everyone else commenting on this post then?

Because no one can understand something like "1 year ago" and comprehend that maybe this sh!t doesn't matter anymore.

Must be an AAFES employee. LOL

I know an AAFES employee, or two. Some are very professional at what they do, but you won't find them working the register in a store. They're generally higher up than that, and they made the position they have by being a pro.

I think it's important to remember, that at RU, no horse is too dead to beat.
