Hi all, I had a few questions that I was wondering if any of you maybe knew the answers to... We are PCSing in a few weeks out of Germany. When we moved here we went to a in processing briefing where they talked about moving into a home and your deposit and such.
They recommended allowing the military to
pay your deposit on your rental and it would be
given back to the military once you pcs. How is
this done exactly? I have been told that the
landlord may or may not give it back to you the
day of your final out. Some say they had to wait
a bit others say they got it right back. I am not too worried about having to pay the military back I just want to know what is coming. Do they debit your pay for the entire amount they paid on the first payday after you finalize your out? Do they wait a certain amount of time? I have heard there is an out processing briefing, I have been told by some they have gone however it is not on my husbands checklist for out processing. How would I find out when/where one is? It seems everyone is always told something different when questions are asked and it is frustrating! If your landlord wants to keep any of your deposit does housing have to approve that? We have had a great landlord however I have heard when they have to give you your money back they can be very unhappy. I know they are supposed to keep it in a separate account and not use it while you live in the house. Anyone have any out-processing advice? I am hoping we can start getting some answers soon. My husband is just returning from a deployment so he is trying to catch up on all the pcs stuff. Thanks everyone.

If you look at ur LES at the bottom should be total indebtness: Then the dollar amount owed is listed.

It is on the right-hand side of the two columns on the bottom.

Don't get me started about local landlords and deposits! The system is broken. The landlords know they are in control. Good luck

My advice to getting your money back quickly. Ask a housing rep to go with you to your final out meeting with the landlord. Take a camera to document anything that the landlord claims. Specify with the landlord prior to this meeting that you would like for them to be prepared with cash to give your deposit back. (they might try to say they will transfer bank to bank and in this case you may end up waiting on them, they might take back their word and hope you leave the country without the money and they wil keep it)

I know I owe the deposit to the AF. That is what our les shows...I am asking what the process is when you move out. Do they take it out of your next paycheck after moving out of the rental? Do they give you a window to get it back form the LL first then take it? I am fine with them taking it ever which way they do in just want to know what is coming.

About a month before our original DEROS (we extend a few months)last year the AF started taking it out of my husband's paycheck. The amount was consistant with paying it off over the next year. I do believe you have the option to go into finance and pay it all off at once, but we had issues getting our deposit back, we had to extend our community bank acct past the time we left because our LL refused to give us cash or a check, they would only give it back via direct deposit. So we wound up not getting it back til weeks after we moved, after we got Legal involved.
