Ok so long story short I graduated highschool in 2003, got married, had a kiddo, moved to Japan and then here, Finally ready to go to college and know what I want to do but no clue where to start. Is it even possible to become a teacher here?

balboa850 --- 13 years ago -

Are you Military Service member?
Spouse?
Dependent?

Where to start is to take some college classes at least for an undergrad degree.

Secondly, go talk to a college counselor, they will put you on the right path with specific programs for your status in life: troops to teachers program, etc.

DoD civilian - Ive done some online searching and don't see many options. Where would I go to talk to a counselor at? Is there options on base? off?

Start at the Education Center at Ramstein.. Good luck!

Any one have any further advice on this topic? I am desperate to have a job that gives months off, and then has no end of alleged `training' days and CSI (box set viewings maybe?) days and any other form of `no school for children' days?!

All joking aside can someone please enlighten me as to what exactly these days are all about (CSI, staff training etc)? As all I can only assume is that the teachers must be geniuses through all these training days etc they have, or maybe they are not...?!!

I'm beginning to think perhaps the schools should send lists out to parents with the days school will actually be on, probably save them a fortune on ink!!!

Ummm....go get a degree and then teaching certificate.

Professional training in order to provide and maintain the best possible education to the students of DoD Servicemembers and civilian employees.

Perhaps you could join the PTO and contribute some of your valuable time to your child/children's education. You'll then see for yourself what "these days are all about".

Oh...`professional training' goes on, on teacher training days? That's cleared up that question then then.

Oh....that answers that question then!
I assume you don't actually have a relevant answer to what actually occurs on these days?
Many thanks however for taking up some of your `valuable time' for such a specific and informative response.

I strongly believe in the old addage - "There's no such thing as a stupid question" - however, after reading some of the questions being asked, I am having second thoughts! I guess stupid is as stupid does.

Thumper --- 12 years ago -

What an answer again...great come back!

Dani --- 12 years ago -

Why not talk to your child's teacher and ask them if it is such a mystery to you.

NewKid --- 12 years ago -

i would recommend you avoid the university of phoenix. thier degrees are not looked on very highly in the business community. don't take my word for it tho, do a search on the web. I know one of the things that many companies are concerned about is the lack of proctored tests. this may have changed since i checked. just be careful that you don't get stuck with a degree that is of no real use.

Seems I'm not alone in the mystery judging from the responses!

NewKid --- 12 years ago -

finch, you're partially correct. in a learning environment when a person doesn't understand something there no such thing as a stupid questions. no matter how stupid it might sound if the person doesn't understand and needs help the question is not stupid. you have to remember this is the underground and in that case all bets are off.

Thumper --- 12 years ago -

NewKid, the irony of you speaking of a learning environment, one can only assume you paid little attention, judging by your grammar?
Thank you for your input however it is very sweet.

NewKid --- 12 years ago -

thumper, we're not in a learning environment as you are pointing out and i don't believe i'm being graded so what does my grammar have to do with anything? i have seen by your posts that you are one who likes, no loves to pick holes in people's posts and are very negative in many cases. the point i made was valid even if you don't agree especially since we are talking about teaching.

Thumper --- 12 years ago -

Please don't tell me (with grammar and literacy like that) you are a teacher?!

Incidentally I didn't give you a grade...However, now you asked, you have excelled with a F

Creton --- 12 years ago -

Uhm, sorry the books are closed to people around these parts. We don't need any new moo cows stealing our jobs.

lol all the way to the bank. Thanks for the GS-12 equivalent!
